Trip in Sky, created in collaboration with Zhang Mudi, follows Xibei, a little girl who believes she has been abandoned after her father’s sudden death. By chance, she boards a small red train from her dreams and embarks on a fantastical journey through the heavens: savoring the four seasons at the Sky Street Café, discovering purity in the Cosmic Candy House, redefining home at the Cloud Amusement Park, learning happiness at Sunset Canyon, and exploring life and death at the Galaxy Cinema.
Through this magical journey, Xibei ultimately reunites with her father and finds resolution for her inner turmoil. Aining’s illustrations, rendered with watercolors, colored pencils, and sparkling materials, create a dreamlike and ethereal world that complements Zhang Mudi’s gentle prose. Together, they craft a fairy-tale universe that heals and inspires, guiding young readers through imagination, grief, and emotional growth.
