Pumpkin Seed is a picture book I created during the pandemic. In those months, I quietly read numerous books and took the time to deeply reconsider the meanings of life, creation, life and death, as well as love. The story revolves around Grandma Fox, who misses Grandpa Fox while tending to her little yard. Until one day, this peaceful existence is disrupted by the sudden arrival of a pumpkin seed...
Through Pumpkin Seed, I aim to portray the love between Grandma Fox and Grandpa Fox. The period of isolation allowed me to step away from the hustle and bustle of daily life and truly reflect on what truly matters to me—is possessing the skills to live a fulfilling life more important than external success? Is having a loving partner by your side more significant than maintaining a wide social circle? I read the book Qian Zhongshu and Yang Jiang, which chronicles the love story of the couple Qian Zhongshu and Yang Jiang. They were a perfect match, supporting each other through thick and thin, and finding happiness in the ordinary moments of life. Eventually, Grandma Yang Jiang followed Grandpa Qian Zhongshu into the afterlife, but they both became two shining stars that forever twinkle in our hearts. Hence, I created this picture book as a tribute to them.
