Creating Children's Picture Books: The Art of Visual Storyteling
Creating Children's Picture Books: The Art of Visual Storytelling is co-authored by Martin Salisbury, a professor at the Cambridge School of Art in the UK, and Morag Styles, a professor from the Department of Children's Literature at the University of Cambridge. The simplified Chinese edition was translated by Aining Wen and published by Beijing Fine Art Photography Press in July 2021. Based on the teaching practices of the Cambridge School of Art, the book systematically organizes theories on picture book creation, covering topics such as a brief history of development, the logic of image-text interaction, printing techniques, and analysis of the publishing industry. Through case studies of international creators like Jon Klassen and samples of student work, it analyzes the principles of visual storytelling and explores cutting-edge issues such as taboo themes and non-fiction creation, offering cross-cultural practical references for creators.
