A Rainy Afternoon
On a quiet, rain-soaked afternoon, a young girl discovers her grandfather’s cello and is invited to “follow the music” into a space where imagination gently reshapes the familiar. As the sound deepens and lingers, swans begin to appear—first inwardly, then almost tangibly—blurring the boundary between the seen and the felt.
Created using MONO printmaking techniques, the book is defined by its atmospheric textures and nuanced tonal transitions. Musical notation is not treated as a decorative reference but as an active visual language embedded within the imagery, guiding rhythm, movement, and emotional pacing across the pages.
Continuing Aining’s ongoing exploration of sound as a structural element in picture books, A Rainy Afternoon brings illustration, text, and original music into close dialogue, expanding reading into a quietly immersive sensory experience. Rather than positioning imagination as an escape from reality, the work suggests that wonder already resides within the everyday—awaiting discovery through attentive listening.
